Benjamin Franklin Heaps was born 10 January 1876 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah. He was the third son of David Heaps, Jr. and Mary Ann Beck Heaps. Benjamin had two older brothers, David Ernest and Thomas William. His younger brothers were Albert Carrington, Seldon Irwin (who died as an infant) Marion and Joseph. He was baptized 4 March 1890 and he was married 8 February 1899 to Ann Eva Dittmore in the Salt Lake Temple. He died 19 April 1941 in Pocatello, Bannock County, Idaho and was buried 22 April 1941 in Pocatello, Bannock County, Idaho.

Ann Eva Dittmore was born 4 June 1877 in Pleasant Grove, Utah County, Utah. She came from a large family of 13 children born to Henry Dittmore and Rachel Smuin. Two of these children were stillborn. Henry Arthur, the eldest child, died when he was five years old. The other brothers and sisters were Caroline Mary, George, Nicholas, Eliza, David Martin, Emily Ellen, Lewis Henry, Esther Sarah, Louisa ( who died as an infant), and Alice Adelia. Ann Eva was baptized 7 September 1885. She died 14 June 1935 in Pocatello, Bannock County, Idaho and was buried 18 June 1935 in Pocatello, Bannock County, Idaho.
